Frequently asked questions
What can a Pal actually do?
If your own child or niece or nephew could do it without a medical licence — so can your Pal. Light cleaning, cooking, shopping, walking the dog, tech help, going for walks, visiting the cemetery, just sitting and talking. We don't have separate services. We just help.
Are you a care agency?
No. We're not carers. We're not an agency. We do not provide regulated personal care (like bathing, dressing, or administering medication).
Do I need a subscription?
No. You can book 2, 4 or 6 hours whenever you need them. Packages are simply prepaid hours at a better rate — no monthly fee attached.
How do I use my package hours?
You use them for anything. Everything is included. Book visits of 2, 4 or 6 hours until the hours are used. Packages are valid for 3 months from purchase.
Do I get the same Pal every time?
With any package — yes, you get a dedicated Pal. With pay-as-you-go we match you with the best available Pal that day.
How do you vet Pals?
References, PVG check, and a personal interview. We only take people we'd trust with our own parents.
Can I cancel a package?
Yes. Unused hours can be refunded (minus any used visits) with 14 days' notice. No penalty.
Do you only cover Edinburgh?
Right now, yes — Edinburgh and nearby. We grow as our Pals grow. Glasgow and Aberdeen are next.
What is the AgePal Eco System?
It's our bigger dream — an independent trusted platform where older people can safely get all the practical help they need (tech, tradespeople, appointments, paperwork, home safety and more) without fear of scams or poor quality. AgePal companionship is the first brick.
What is a "Contribution"?
It is not a donation and not a charity. It is a voluntary contribution to help us build the private AgePal Eco System faster. 100% goes into development, vetting systems and expansion. You can give once or monthly. Every bit helps create the safety we all want for our later years.
